I hope this post finds you all well and enjoying the beginning of the 2013 "Holiday Season"....I for one had an incredible Thanksgiving weekend with a lot of time spent catching up with family and friends !!!!
The reason for my post and E-Mail today is to announce our "3rd Annual Holiday Charity Drive" which this year will take on a new charity as is the tradition and also have a new twist which I am sure you will all like and appreciate as you read on.........
For those of you who are new to the group and too give you a little background......in 2011 when Saturday Morning Cars was just getting started and our membership and car community grew to well over 100 enthusiast, we as a group came together and started a tradition of taking a moment and a few dollars out of our pockets and collectively giving back around the holidays in a somewhat organized manner.
In our 1st year of doing this which was 2011, and much to my surprise, the response was overwhelming and we as a group collected and donated more than 350 toys to a local Children's Hospital which serves our community in South Jersey. (see photo #1 below)
In our 2nd year 2012, we collected over 300lbs of supplies ranging from candy to tooth brushes, tooth paste, shampoo, magazines and DVD's along with one donation of over 40 bottles of Gun Cleaner and shipped them off to a group of soldiers located at that time in Afghanistan. (see photo #2 below)
Now fast forward to 2013 / today....... after some discussions with you all about what to do??? how to do it ??? should we have special meet ??? collections ???? do the normal charity thing ??? It became apparent that while all of the above are great and some great people put all their heart an energy into doing this and creating these events that maybe 2013 we'd go a different route???
So, as I mentioned, after a lot of discussion and thought along with some self control to wait until the Holiday Season begins officially on Thanksgiving Day....... I am please to announce that in the true spirit of charity and also in honor of and in remembrance of one of the original SMC founding members who passed suddenly this year "Chris Ricciuti" we'd let his family pick and direct where our efforts would go.
Based on a conversation with his son CJ, and his wife Peggy they requested that we all forgo the normal "pomp and ceremony" and instead direct any donations, efforts or cost which are associated with putting on an events and pass 100% of the savings and donations directly to the charity, "Make a Wish Foundation" in his Chris's honor.
Here is a direct link to the charities website where you can read all about the organization and make your donation on-line.

Have a great week, weekend and see you all on the 14th of December "weather permitting"
